These coins are famously known as "Anonymous" because the reigning emperors chose to omit their own names and portraits, dedicating the currency entirely to Jesus Christ to signify that he was the true ruler of the empire. The front has a facing bust of Jesus Christ, wearing a nimbus crown (halo) holding the Book of Gospels. Remnants of "IC" and "XC" fields flanking the portrait. The reverse has a cross (+) at top, followed by the iconic 4-line religious inscription: + IhSVS / XRISTVS / bASILEV / bASILE (Translates to: "Jesus Christ, King of Kings"). Pleasing ancient condition with an authentic, dark earthy/greenish patina.
