Up for sale is a historic, original award medal from the famous 1893 Chicago World's Fair (World's Columbian Exposition). The iconic obverse was designed by legendary American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and depicts Christopher Columbus stepping ashore in the New World with his arms outstretched. To his right, his companions follow, alongside the Pillars of Hercules and the inscription "PLVS VLTRA". The reverse, designed by Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber, features a central cartouche with two flaming torches on either side and the Santa Maria sailing below.
