The WW1 Original French Verdun Bronze Medal is a historic artifact from the tumultuous period of World War I and measures approx. 1" wide. The Médaille de Verdun, or Verdun Medal, is a bronze medal commemorating the Battle of Verdun during World War I, specifically for French soldiers who served in the Verdun Sector. It was established by the Municipal Council of Verdun on November 20, 1916, and intended to be awarded to those who fought on the front between February 16 and November 2, 1916, but was actually awarded to those who served anywhere along the Verdun sector. The medals often feature imagery related to the battle, including portraits of generals, French Republic imagery, and the motto "ON NE PASSE PAS" (They Shall Not Pass).
